AGRI EXPORT ZONE (AEZ) - ONION

  • Promote greater exports of Onion and its products from the State.
  • Maharashtra leads in production of Onion in the country today (66000 Ha area with 1324000 MT production).
  • Fresh onion is exported from the State in large quantities.
  • Exports of value added or processed onion is taking place in limited quantities.

Brief Details

  • A number of activities suggested under the AEZ to facilitate exports, include interventions in Production, Post Harvest practices, processing and Marketing areas leading to an integrated approach for export development.
  • Creation of and up gradation of post harvest infrastructure required for Exports.
  • Total project outlay is Rs. 3224 Lakhs over a 5 year period, with financial support from Government Agencies estimated at Rs. 1912 Lakhs and investment from Private entrepreneurs at Rs. 1312 Lakhs.
  • Expected to result in increased exports of 59000 MT of fresh Onion over the next 5 years valued at Rs. 6500 Lakhs and processed onion exports of 16775 MT valued at Rs.7650 Lakhs.

Present Status

  • GoM has announced the creation of AEZ for Onion and its products covering the Districts of Nasik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Satara, Solapur and Jalgaon.
  • The MSAMB has been named the nodal agency by the State.
  • A Detailed Project Report (DPR) submitted by the MSAMB through GoM has been approved by the GoI.
  • GoM signed a MoU with the GoI to implement the AEZ project on 16 January 2003.
  • MSAMB has provided Rs. 5.06 Crores as subsidy for construction of Onion Storage Unit.
  • Onion irradiation facility is being set upat Babulgaon dist.A'Nagar by Hindustan Agro Co-operative society Ltd. rahuri.

    Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board in coordination with State agricultural department, Local APMC and cooperative societies continousely arraning training and demonstration programs in rural area to increase export quality production. The training booklet prepared with the help of experts covering pre and post harvest technology of concerned crop is circulated freely among farmers likewise-

  • During the year 2003-04, 2328 farmers were trained in 34 one-day training programs.
  • During the year 2004-05, 2903 farmers were trained in 46 training programs.
  • In the current year MSAMb has planned to conduct 60 one day training programsin the year 2005-06.

    Dist.(Satara) - Natepute,Malshiras and other.
  • Investment - With reference to infrastructure development advertise in news paper was release on 17 th and 19 th Sept.2003.The investor from private and co operative sector are guided further.
    MSAMB with the help of APEDA, New Delhi and APMC,Indapur Dist Pune has developed Onion export facility center first of its kind at Indapur Dist.Pune with modern grading packaging facility with 10MTs./Hr capacity and 500 MTs of scientific onion storage structures.
