AGRI EXPORT ZONE (AEZ) - BANANA

Proposal to set up an AEZ to promote exports of fresh Banana and it's products
from the State made.

Maharashtra is a leading producer of Banana in the country (72200 Ha area and
433050 MT production).

Production of Banana is concentrated in parts of Western Maharashtra and
Marathwada regions.

Presently exports of Banana from the State is minimal.

A number of activities have been suggested under the AEZ to facilitate export
including interventions in Production, Post Harvest practice and marketing.

Total project outlay has been estimated at Rs. 1345 lacs divided in two phases.
Phase I for first two years and phase II for 3 to 5 years.
Present Status

GoM announced the creation of AEZ for Banana in the Districts of Jalgaon,
Dhule, Nandurbar, Buldana, Wardha, Nanded, Parbhani & Hingoli.

The GoM has named the MSAMB as nodal agency.

MoU has been signed between GoM and GoI on 4th July 2005.

During the year 2005-06, 1005 farmers were trained in 18 one day training
programs.

In the current year 2006-07 from August'06 onwards 345 farmers were trained in
04 one day training programs at -
Dist. Parbhani - Pathari
Dist. Nanded - Talani, Mahegaon
Dist. Hingoli - Wongarkada
MSAMB with the help of APEDA has started the work of erection of
Banana Export facility center at Raver Dist.Jalgaon and Basmatnagar
Dist.Hingoli. the project report of the same is prepared by the MSAMB.
