AGRI EXPORT ZONE (AEZ) - ALPHONSO MANGOES

Set up to promote exports of best quality Alphonso Mangoes and its products
from the State.

Production of Alphonso Mango is concentrated in Konkan region (140239 Ha area
with 293637 MT production).

Alphonso Mangoes have been exported in Reefer and CA (Controlled Atmosphere)
containers by sea from the State by the MSAMB on trial basis and subsequently
as a commercial activity by private exporters.

An estimated 13000 MT Alphanso Mango was exported during the last year.
Brief Details
-
A number of activities have been suggested under the AEZ to
facilitate exports, which include interventions in Production, Post Harvest
practices and Marketing areas leading to an Integrated approach for export
development.

Creation of and up gradation of post harvest infrastructure required for
Exports.

Total project outlay is Rs. 3512 lakhs over a 5 year period, with financial
support from Government Agencies estimated at Rs. 2612 lakhs and investment
from Private entrepreneurs at Rs. 900 Lakhs.

Expected to result in increased exports of 12300 MT of Alphonso Mangoes over
the next 5 years valued at Rs 5,412 lakhs.
Progress so far

State has announced the creation of an AEZ (Agri Export Zone) for Alphonso
Mangoes in the Districts of Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigadh and Thane.

The MSAMB has been named as nodal agency.

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) submitted by the MSAMB has been approved.

GoM signed a MoU with the GoI to implement the AEZ project (on 12 February
2002).

Potential Investors have been identified.

Pre-cooling, cold storage and pack house facility of Mahamango at Kudal has
been upgraded for export to China.
Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board in coordination with State
agricultural department, Local APMC and cooperative societies continousely
arraning training and demonstration programs in rural area to increase export
quality production. The training booklet prepared with the help of experts
covering pre and post harvest technology of concerned crop is circulated freely
among farmers likewise-

During the year 2003-04, 1656 farmers were trained in 35 one-day training
programs.

During the year 2004-05, 617 farmers were trained in 11 one day training
programs.

during the year 2005-06, 1469 farmers were trained in 22 one day training
programs.
In the current year 2006-07 from august 2006 onwards 115 farmers were trained
in 04 one day training programs at -

Investment- MSAMB with the help of APEDA, New Delhi and Devgad
mango growers co-operative society has developed Mango export facility center
at Jamsande at Nachane, dist- Ratnagiri. These both facilities have following
different units-
Precooling= 5 Mts.
Cold storage= 25 Mts.
Ripening Chamber= 5 Mts.
mechanical Handling Syatem= 1.5 Mts/hr.
