MAHARASHTRA COOPERATIVE FLORICULTURE DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY LTD, PUNE

Maharashtra is having more potential in floriculture sector, due to its climatic conditions, soil texture, and nearest local marketing centers, viz. Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Nashik. Considering this fact, the Maharashtra. State Cooperative Floriculture Development Society Ltd. has been established in the year 1993, to boost floriculture industry in Maharashtra. Total area under floriculture in Maharashtra is 12,000 ha and 500 ha area under protected cultivation.

Objectives of the Society are as follows:

  • To co-operate and promote marketing and trading activities of the affiliated members, who are producing flowers and other floricultural products and to create an integrated infrastructure of cooperative marketing organisation and to render service and technical guidance.
  • To sell the agricultural / floricultural products of the individual members and affiliated institutional members.
  • To undertake and promote either on its own account or on behalf of affiliated bodies / individual members or Government / Import-Export and Interstate in Agricultural / Floriculture produce and other commodities and allied goods and requisites.
  • To encourage the development of flowers of foreign origin / ornamental plants / potted plants for export in the European markets.
  • To create facilities for preharvest, postharvest technology - temperature management, pre-cooling units and cooling chain for export marketing of the flowers and other facilities like refrigerated vans, containers with gensets and space in air cargo.
  • To undertake extensive survey of the floricultural industry in Maharashtra and to prepare a development plan for exportand domestic markets of floricultural produce.
  • To raise the funds from NCDC / NABARD / Nationalised bank, NHB and other government and financial agencies for creating modern structure of polyhouse techniques, new modern packing and promotion of sales in the foreign markets.
  • To establish a training institute for imparting training in new techniques of production and marketing of flowers.
  • To work as a liaison between the European flower markets and flower producers in Maharashtra and to carry out all other activities that are necessary for developing export marketing.
  • To open branches and or sale depots or agencies in any part of Maharashtra and outside the state with the previous permission of the Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Maharashtra State and other competitive authority.
  • To undertake or promote any activity, which will generate gainful employment for the rural mass, engaged in production of floriculture.
  • To own lands, building, pre-cooling vans, machinery, plants and vehicles and to take or give them on rent for the business of the society. To act as an asset for the government or the public bodies registered under any act with the previous sanction of the registered co-operative societies.
  • To do such business as may be conducive to the promotion of floriculture in Maharashtra.
  • Consulting and preparation of project reports.

Share Capital

The authorised share capital of the society is Rs. 1 Crore divided into 10000 shares of Rs. 1000/- each.

'A' class membership is open to the following institutions:

  • Agricultural Produce Market Committees.
  • District Central Co-operative Banks
  • Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board.
  • Any other institution doing the business of marketing floricultural / agricultural products.
  • The State Government, Central Government, NCDC, NABARD, NHB.
  • Any other institution, societies, trust, registered under any act statue.

'B' class membership is open to the following:

  • Individual flower producers.
  • Individual engaged in research of new technology like tissue culture and biotech methods.
  • Individuals engaged in temperature management, humidity control, pre-cooling techniques and cool chains
  • Individuals engaged in import-export business of modern technological equipments and inputs required for export marketing.
  • Individuals engaged in packing and transporting of perishable commodities like flowers and floricultural products.
  • Individuals who are interested in developing floricultural production.
  • Individuals working as clearing house agents.

To obtain technical assistance and guidance regarding floriculture, it is essential to become a member of the society. For the institution it is required to subscribe at least 3 shares of Rs. 1,000/- each along with Rs. 100/- entrance fee. An individual has to subscribe at least one share of Rs. 1,000/- each and Rs. 10/- entrance fee.

Polyhouse Training:

To get the detail information regarding polyhouse, cultivation, post harvest technology, pert management, water requirement and marketing with particles the society is organising one day polyhouse training programme within Maharashtra at various places with the help of Agriculture Produce Market Committees. Till date 1600 growers have been benefited. Along with trainings, flower exhibitions are also arrangred for the growers. The expenditure on training and exhibitions is done by respective Agriculture Produce Market Committee.

Books:

'Vyavsaik Pushpa Utpadan' Book on floriculture has been published by the Maharashtra Cooperative Floriculture Development Society, Pune. The price is Rs. 80/- and available in Society's office.

Commercial cultivation of Vegetables and exotic vegetables under polyhouse and out door, for obtaining the detail information on production technology, following books are available for growers in Society's office -

1. Vyavsaik bhajipala Utpadan - By Dr. Ram Kharche and Dr. A.S. Naphade.
2. Production Technology of Exotic Vegetables- By Dr. Ram Kharche and Dr. A.S. Naphade. Price Rs. 90/-
